I took up running back in 1993 aged 16 as something to do over the summer and used to train before my part-time job started at 7am. Whereas lots of people say "I haven't run since school" for me it's "I didn't run until I left school"!
Did my first marathon (London) in 1995 (age 18) in 5h37m! For a few years thereafter I ran intermittently but still did the occasional marathon and improved each time. After never really committing to a running club, I joined Stourbridge RC in late 2006, have continued to improve and have never looked back. Despite cutting down my training since our first-born arrived in November 2008 I've somehow continued to improve. As I write in June 2011, this year's already included PBs at 10k, 5 miles and 5k. I'll probably make an attempt on my half marathon PB in the autumn (before our second-born arrives!) but have quit marathons for the time being after 7 attempts and a best of 3:29. I also dabble in a bit of fell running with a best time of 1:36 (in the rain!) for the Snowdon International (that's the one that goes straight up and down). I have to limit it as it tends to cause me back trouble but there's nothing better than running out there in the hills. Show More...
