About Me

I started running in 2007 when challenged to compete in the Long Eaton 5 mile road race by a friend (who didn't beat me on the day and has yet to beat me in a race that I have completed without injury!) and didn't really think that the running would go much further than this.

We completed another couple of 5 milers and I completed my first 10k race in 2008. My first attempt at the half marathon distance was blighted by injury (cramp at the 5 mile mark) but I managed to complete the course in just over 2 hours.

2009 was a year taken over by work and I wasn’t able to do much running but I was able to get back on the road in early 2010. April 2010 saw my best official 10k time of 47:38 but my running comeback was cut short through injury and I only managed another 1 race that year. This was probably due to me being slightly overweight and trying to do too much too quickly for my body to handle (injury is a great teacher and I have certainly learnt my lessons as at least one recovery was cut short for this reason)

2011 saw my first real return to running that was injury free in my preparation for the Kilomathon-England which was completed in 2:15:33 but not much running after this due to a personal crisis. I returned for a further half marathon in September 2012 but suffered yet another injury setback shortly after this which ended my running for the remainder of the year.

In 2012, after recovering from this latest injury, I started training for making the transition to the marathon distance. This went well and I managed to complete my training program without issue. My first race at 20 mile distance was a 2:54:00 and I completed my first London Marathon in 4:02:21. Since then I managed a half marathon pb 1:40:53 and a marathon pb in November 2012 of 3:53:44.

Here’s hoping that 2013 brings continued improvement in my running and that pb’s continue to be posted as I feel that I’m in the best shape of my life and have much more to give. As I am a member of a running club I would also like to compete in some league races this year and contribute more to the community that the club represents.

Current Status

Enjoying running in 2013 so far and looking forward to whatever the rest of the year holds.
