I am fundraising for Asthma UK

I am attempting to run all the world marathon majors in the same year to celebrate turning 35 and becoming a veteran.

From the UK there are only 34 British women and 102 men running the Boston marathon in 2012 which puts us in quite a unique group anyway. However, few runners have completed all the majors in the same year especially due to the logistics. Boston and London being run only 6 days apart in April and Berlin being held only a week earlier than Chicago during the Autumn. Fortunately I'll then have 4 weeks rest before the final marathon in New York.

Although I am running this for personal achievement I have also decided to run for charity. I have secured my places in Boston and London through achieving the guaranteed entry qualifying times in previous marathons so haven't needed to buy a place from a charity but I have decided to raise money and awareness for asthma.

I have chosen to do this as my PhD was in respiratory medicine focusing on asthma research and I suffer from it myself. However, I also teach a number of sports to children and young people who miss out on participating in activities through not managing their asthma successfully or because their asthma will prevent them from taking part so I wish to inspire people with asthma to participate in sports.
