Hi I’m Roy Bentley and I’m 32. I joined Dagenham 88 Runners in September of 2007 after deciding to shift a few pounds. I had never ran before, other than the odd jog around the local park when I used to play Sunday league football, so I was a little apprehensive about joining and embarrassing myself. I need not have worried though as they are a real social club. I’m now a running machine, never likely to win any races, but am at peace with myself when running and seem to be getting a few more top 10 finishes in local races which is encouraging. I would love to do more fell running because I love the countryside and enjoy the tougher challenges. I already have on my CV Hell runner, Beachy Head, and next year will be adding Tough Guy. Fingers crossed I come back in one piece.
