Phew, what a hot race! This was a new experience for me on several levels. The running I had recently done in Cyprus may have helped me prepare for this unusually warm day, but I still struggled after the first 5km. Had to walk for a few paces after the second cone turn, but gave it my all and was breathing very noisily for the last few km! (Sorry Karen) Glad of company and a bit of pacing from CurlyK for some of the second half (and well done you for going on a doing a longer run afterwards!). On the final stretch I started to feel quite dizzy and had to really focus on continuing. At the end I really thought I was going to pass out and had to sit propped up by a wall for about 15mins with HH. Even then I felt very wobbly for a while. After some coffee, cake and sports drink I could maintain the vertical again! Really really chuffed to win the FV55 prize and also the Cambs Athletics 5 mile FV55 medal and so lovely to see the genuine pleasure from all my clubmates that I had managed that-thank you all. I've never won a race category before! Got my club diamond standard too, and one second slower than my PB (if only I hadn't walked round that cone...!)
