Well, that went quite well! 1:27:47. 4th best half? The 3 better ones were June, Nov and Mar pre VLM 2013. So nothing better in any marathon campaigns before. Cool! Pushed myself to pick it up a couple of times. And it was an all out effort, not a jog! Nice to see Harmeny folk before, Keith Ainslie on course etc. And lovely lunch with the boy after. x
Some race update stuff, cos I've decided this was quite a good outcome. 327th out of 12K start, 10K finish. 40th over 45? Relaxed approach: rugby and 6 hours driving day before, late to bed, porridge in morn, set off early and parked early, had Costa before (triple shot!) 1 hour before, took bottle of Lucozade had 30 mins before, saw club mates, stood in pen, bit of chat, did some of warm up, no run. Started steady 7 min per mile but uphill, pushed fine first few miles, very busy, dodging round but happy and enjoying, but not easy, not totally relaxed. Saw distance would be long, but decided to push pace to below 6:40 in order to allow for extra distance. Tired at 10 but kept pushing. Very last mile very tired, but the old "this is what I came for". Latched onto some faster people helped, obviously passing loads of folk. Turns out to be 90s neg split so could have gone a bit harder at start, but happy not have done. Thought just a bit lower 1:29 would be good enough, so very pleased with under 1:28. Shoes were fine (even though trashed!) Wrong shorts, under and t-shirt, so chafing but fine too!
