Ashby 20: Oh my what a mixed bag of experience this race gave me on my marathon journey!

With a cold virus rearing its ugly head on the eve of this race and with hindsight, I probably should have listened to my inner voice and just stayed under the duvet. However, I knew I'd ran out of days to do my long run and I really, really wanted that Hoody.

Jogged my first two miles with Trotters, then joined other Werry Joggers for a walk to the start. It was a beautiful sunny morning which helped lighten my mood and had fantastic support from Pinklou2000, Mr Diver and Sharon T who kept me going. I was so surprised and really chuffed at how well I was going considering the cold. Without warning though, at mile 14 (16 unofficially) the donkey's tail fell off and I knew I had to slow right down to be able to finish and get that bloomin hoody!

Carried on at a slower pace with Sharon T for a couple of miles. It got increasingly harder especially those last two miles, I stopped and walked a bit at the last water station, then at mile 19 had to walk up that last little hill. Thankfully Trotters was there encouraging me on and I managed to get going again. With just 400m to go it was brilliant to receive a loud cheer from all the Werry Joggers as I carried on round the field to the finish! Yeah!

Despite being very ill the next day, I did really enjoy the race, great sunny weather, it was well organised, with a goody bag and that lovely hoody, also the great WJ support from PKL2000, Bill, Sharon T, Trotters, Lollepop, GW, CurlyK, Rken, OM, Graham. Thanks to Shirley and Bill for the divine chocolate cake.
