Notes & Comments

Bournemouth Marathon

It wasn't a great race for me unfortunately. I was hoping for a PB and up until 13.1 miles I was running at my target race pace and did infact hit my projected half marathon time of 1:20, on the head. However, the following miles were a lot tougher and my pace slowed below my target for the remainder of the race, and I only managed 2:50 which I am very disappointed with myself for getting.

Reasons:

Looking back, I don't believe that my training was at fault, although maybe I should have concentrated a little more on my tempo runs and slightly more milage per week (for Berlin I was running slightly higher milage per week)

The course was not that fast with numerous switchbacks and tight turns, and certainly wasn't flat. It was also a hot day which didn't help any.

There were no energy drinks at the hydration stations (only gels which I don't use), so I ran solely on water for the whole race. Usually I take onboard energy drinks for the last third of a marathon race.
