Swaledale Marathon. 23 miles over the Yorkshire Dales, endless hills, rocky paths and bogs. Going up the hills and on the few decent flat sections I could compete with the top guys, but on all the other bits, bogs, downhill, rocky paths, they would easily leave me trailing behind. It was really hard and seemed endless, but I got around OK and managed to come 11th, though annoyingly I lost 2 places in the last half mile because all the skin on the bottom of both big toes had come off and it was a bit painful running on the path that consisted lose rocks and boulders!
I am sure with the experience of doing it I could do better if I did it again, but that is a big if at the moment. It has put me off doing a marathon as at the moment I can see no reason to run that far!

Great effort John. Shouldn't put you off a marathon, you'll do it quarter of an quicker, so no damage.
...an hour...I meant
I was thinking at least a half
Well done John, great achievement! Agree with you entirely, there is no reason to run that far. Lol. X
Well done John
