Got to the start feeling great all the training had gone to plan at the start the crowd fell silent for the 30 seconds to remember the People killed at the Boston marathon you could of heard a pin drop. My splints are shown below I set off feeling great and the 6:30 pace felt easy the first 10 to 15k are slight down hill so just a little faster then running on the flat I went through half way on plan aiming to speed up and run a neg split. Just past half way my stomach started to cramp and every step was painful as I looked for a loo which I found at around the 26k point. After this I managed to get back on pace but the cramp was still there again every step was painful this forced me to look for another loo and again after stopping I tried to get back on pace but the cramps continued. I didn't see the point of trying to run as every step just caused more pain. I jogged the last 400m down the Mall and over the finish line. After meeting up with Anita and walking back to the hotel my stomach contined to give me trouble for a couple of hours more. On reflection the positives from this are:

A. 3:42:09 is still a time a lot of people would be very happy with and I walked the last six and a bit miles and after all a lot of people couldn't complete a marathon if they tried.

B. My legs are fresh so I will take a small break then start training for the Larne Half and the WPFG.

C. My stomach has cleared up so properly something from breakfast was the cause, think it might of been the porridge in the hotel as I like it thick and this was very milky.

D. We fly out to Grand Cayman for two weeks so why would I want to dwell on this it's only one run out of thousands and pardon the pun shit happens.

D. With the WPFG coming up I have a few new goals to aim for.

E. I only have 15 working days to complete on my return before I retire.

Gutted for you, but it will really only be a big issue if you don't take advantage of the training in other races to come. So enjoy the holiday and then smash the summer and autumn instead.

Oh, and massive LOL at "plop lungs" :-)
