Stowmarket Striders Scenic 7
I achieved an unexpected PB today
This race was one of my first races as a Strider back in 2005. I ran an unexpected PB back then of 1:03:23. I didn't think I'd get close to that time in todays race, let alone PB, but I did, by almost a minute and a half
I'm so chuffed with my splits, I haven't run sub 9 min/mile and certainly haven't run 8:xx splits since having my children.
The first mile was downhill, and I ran it too fast, although pleased at the pace! There were alot more undulations than I remember, but equally, alot of downhills to compensate. A half mile hill messed up my 5 mile split and I was disappointed I couldn't maintain the pace, but I did manage to pick it up again in the final 2 miles. I actually enjoyed the final mile as it was very familiar territory as we run this stretch alot with the club, and I new I could do a good sprint finish here as it's slightly downhill. I think I would have PB'd at 10k today as well! The half marathon training has clearly helped my speed! I also had 2 shot blocks half an hour before the race and 1 during the race, I wonder if that helped?
Great support from the Striders marshalling, at the water stations (several of them poured water over me as I ran thorough there which made me laugh!) and cycling the course as always.
I love a good race, I'm still smiling
