Stamford 30k
Run with Ron, Emma and E'O most of the time, but they are certainly much stronger as they were able to finish more comfortable than how I felt.
Started struggling badly after mile 15 - really wanted to give up!! On km 27 started to drift behind: Ron made an attempt to come back for me, but I waved him to carry on with E & E as I felt that was an internal battle I needed to get over on my own and assume my own consequences.
Marts joined me on the last km: I didn't mind at that point, as I think the worst had already gone; managed to catch up briefly with the rest, but was not able to sprint.
Hamstrings were already tired, before race. I realised body spends lots of energy in keeping it moving if muscles are not conditioned. However, it also taught me how important breathing control is to keep under control the tightness.
Around mile 6, the inside of my knees started to feel tender, and so till the end. It might be because of the newly supported shoes, although I'm concerned that the pain gets more intense if I increase the pace a bit.
Tenderness has only reappeared in runs longer than 6 miles, with either of my new shoes.
Good stretch afterwards, long hot bath and self "inflicted" massage, helped with not suffering from DOMS the next day. Here a tip to follow in the future!!!
Glad I did it; I'm looking forward to next year's: I won't let it defeat me!
