Split Summary

====

3:15 pace.. thought may as well go for it, training pointed at this time, I knew it would hurt if it didnt work, but you gotta give it a go hey!
1) - 1m - 7:23(7:23/m) - 99cal already sweating and felt on the brink of uncomfortable
2) - 1m - 7:21(7:21/m) - 101cal

3) - 1m - 7:16(7:16/m) - 101cal had my first gel and needed it
4) - 1m - 7:23(7:23/m) - 102cal

5) - 1m - 7:26(7:26/m) - 104cal

6) - 1m - 7:28(7:28/m) - 103cal

7) - 1m - 7:22(7:22/m) - 101cal

8) - 1m - 7:24(7:24/m) - 102cal

9) - 1m - 7:31(7:31/m) - 103cal whooops, first mile off pace (but hadnt felt right from mile 1
10) - 1m - 7:31(7:31/m) - 100cal

11) - 1m - 7:44(7:44/m) - 100cal

12) - 1m - 7:30(7:30/m) - 101cal - Tower bridge, knew Id had it as far as 3:15 and prob 3:20 were concerned, just from how I felt... still thought 3:25 was on...
13) - 1m - 7:50(7:50/m) - 98cal

14) - 1m - 7:54(7:54/m) - 97cal

By this time I was guzzling water and lucozade like Id never drank before.
15) - 1m - 7:56(7:56/m) - 93cal

16) - 1m - 6:29(6:29/m) - 66cal This was totally wrong, lost me on the underpass.... but this is where it got even horribler, and I stopped looking at my watch as I just couldnt go any quicker so no point!
17) - 1m - 8:41(8:41/m) - 98cal

18) - 1m - 8:19(8:19/m) - 93cal

19) - 1m - 8:17(8:17/m) - 85cal

20) - 1m - 8:02(8:02/m) - 80cal

21) - 1m - 8:23(8:23/m) - 98cal

22) - 1m - 8:38(8:38/m) - 98cal

From here started to realise even sub 3:30 was going to be a struggle, was determined though to try and salvage something! Was working out each mile, how much time I had to run each one!
23) - 1m - 8:46(8:46/m) - 96cal

24) - 1m - 8:09(8:09/m) - 85cal

25) - 1m - 8:34(8:34/m) - 72cal

26) - 1m - 8:45(8:45/m) - 92cal

27) - 0.72m - 5:48(8:04/m) - 61cal Just squeezed under 3:30 by 16 seconds, with a sprint (well, felt like a sprint) finish.

Today was my hardest challenge ever. Knew it wasn't right from mile 1 and just tried to hang on. I don't think any pace would have felt OK today, felt sluggish and heavy.

Believe it or not, still a PB..... but not the one I wanted, thought I'd be early 20's at worst.

Terrible experience whilst in the moment, but a huge sense of achievement for getting through over 2 hours of soul searching hell and mentally battling with myself and the will to give up.

Finally RIP Claire Squires.. makes you realise how mortal we all are. So tragic.

Yes! This is exactly my experience! felt exactly the same as you, from the start, and also ended up downing as much water & lucozade as humanly possible, was literally glugging around in my stomach but I still felt like I needed more, same feelings of no energy, heaviness & wanting to drop out, also felt the same in terms of struggling throughout, so please don't feel like you're alone in that, sure we weren't the only ones too! strange how our training pointed to better times but it just didn't happen on the day, but like you say, we lived to tell the tale, unlike poor Claire, keeps things in perspective..xxx

Sorry to hear it didn't go to plan Caz, you had trained so well. Very similar experience as me except it felt fine till about 9 miles. From 12 - 24 miles I was in a deep dark hole! Last 2 I just decided to jog in and enjoy the crowed so just missed a pb but like you nothing close to what I wanted. Next time hey !
