GER half - PW

Where to start ? hadn't ran at all for 5 weeks prior to this and training before that was sparse (51 miles in 2 months), as a result I knew there was no hope in a decent time so thought I could still 'jog' round and 'enjoy'.

OM had a place at the front so my plan was to start quick ish and when I caught OM slow down to 8.40 ish pace and run with him. As a result started far too quick, after about 3-4 miles I thought I would never catch him as he must have gone off thinking it was a 5 mile race or something !

THis was now hard work and with 10 miles to go I seriously considered what had made me think doing the would be easy ! Saw BM and babyswerver on Gunthorpe Rd and stopped and had a chat, no hurry for me then headed off again, my aim for the race had now changed and it was now a case of getting through it, various WJ members went past me and I had various parts where I stopped to have a Shotblok and some water.

At around halfway the temptation to stop all together was very tempting but I plodded on, near Paston Church I saw a friend and stopped and had a good 2 min chat with him, then carried on, I then saw DD further down the road stopped to say hi then spotted OM running down the road, he had started further back and all the time I was chasing to catch him I was actually running away from him, whoops ! Ran with OM for a bit until near Francis Gdns when Lynda (WJ) had pulled up with an injury so stopped and helped her for a minute or so then went on.

On Lawn Ave I spotted my parents and stopped for yet another chat then ran on with Gem* when she went past, however my body was telling me it hurts and stopped near the park for a rest, eventually the last mile came upon me and I was now running with Chris P, trying to help him get under 2 hours, I eventually trundled over the line in 1.59.03 by the chip and have never been so pleased to see a finish line in my life !

Some great runs and PB's from others and the day/race itself was good, I now have a long long road to trying to get some fitness and strength back, perhaps new runners will be my first group to run with when I make a TUes evening !
