8-15K tune up race 9-13 mile total Stirling 10K. Yay! PB.

Just got results (within a few hours of finishing, well done again Central!) 37:58. Get in!

So, went well that. 2 years since my 10K PB, here at Stirling 2009. Like the course. Same point in my training, 6 weeks to marathon, off back of mostly just long running. I've maybe done a bit more speedwork this time, but not huge. Reminded myself that I've done 7 miles at 6:30 out of a 10 miler, tempo and some intervals etc. However, would have been happy with 39 mins. Marathon is the focus. Kept *very* steady. Started back a bit, bunched in, didn't worry. 200m it thinned out, 6:40 ave, no probs, will pick it up, by 1km was going a bit quick, ave was back to 6:10, perfect (target was 6:0x if poss, but fine with 6:1x) Forget there are a few wee ups and downs and winding round bollards, and wind in your face a bit. By 2nd mile was feeling a bit tired, heavy, but not bad. Saw some 6:17 ave and thought, c'mon can push this a bit, saw it back to 6:09, that'll do. Saw Soapy (doing first 6 of 22 for the day - nutter!) going well, so cruised up to him, but slowly and went past saying hi. HappyT came past me. Awesome haircut wee cuz! He's looking strong and quick. Chatting to (up?!) girls on way round and pinging off. OK, I thought, might try and keep the family in sight. So kept within 10m of him. 5km marker was early (18:09 - I wish!) but pace was steady. Going down to the turnaround cone, HappyT had gone away a bit, but I picked up speed up the hill after the cone (think that happened last time.) So we're going slightly uphill, we're 6km in and I start feeling better! Guess it's marathon training. Feels better longer? So started pushing up and past people. Saw Lou ahead. She had been going v. quick well ahead, but HappyT came up to and went by her. When I went by I said "Come with me" and she did for a bit. Huge PB, well done Lou. I was with HappyT now, 8km, and he said go by, but I said I was at my limit. I was, but actually, felt like I was recovering. Last mile, then 9km and I started picking up a bit. I said for wee cuz to come on and he did, doing a great time, so we pushed on for the line together. 200m and I stretched out, oh shoot, gantry clock says 37:5x, better squeeze a second or two for a PB.

Great to see Sunbed Athlete before and then after, having finished in an awesome time and 10th position against national standard strong field. Thanks for the wee dram matey! Then cheering folk in, well done santa, IanB, Smout. _andy with another 45s PB, 37:15? Amazing, just getting faster and faster. Went for coffee n cake with santa, Keyring, IanB and a club mate. Loads of great chat. Well done Central AC on a fab organised, marshalled race.
