EDINBURGH FULL MARATHON (6,967 OF 9,660 FINISHERS)
On Saturday night, after an awful nightâs sleep (neck killing me), I decided to tackle the Edinburgh Marathon. It was quite literally an âon the spotâ decision. I felt totally rubbish anyway, so reasoned that I had nothing much to lose â I couldnât feel much more crap. My finishing time looks a touch shocking on paper. However, Iâm actually very, very proud even to have got round. I fell last weekend and 'turned' my right ankle. It was strapped up Saturday evening and I was guzzling Ibuprofen like it was going out of fashion. Indeed, even putting any pressure at all on my foot was pretty painful up until about Thursday. So, on race day, I really had to ânursemaidâ the foot from the start to the finish. That, coupled with some truly horrendous weather (rain showers, hail and a semi-gale), made for a tough, tough day. But I thankfully had just enough in the tank to crawl to the finish.
