Edinburgh Marathon -
I started this feeling very good about it, the nerves were there and I stood on the start line with the apprehension that usually is a sign that good things to come. With a strong wind from behind I knew that the turn at mile 17 would be hard as we would be running into a strong headwind for the remainder so to get a sub 3:15 I was going to have to run a bit faster out to compensate. Everything was going perfect and my body was coping with no adverse effects, so when I PB'ed my 10 mile I was not too worried that I was running too fast. By mile 13 I was feeling even better and couldn't believe how easy I was finding my 7:10 average pace to be. I was surely on for that magic sub 3:15. Then disaster struck, I felt something tear in my right calf and as I put my foot down the pain was horrible. I didn't come all this way to fail so decided to carry on as a sub 3:30 was still possible. By using my left leg to take the pressure off I found a way to run still but at a reduced pace for about another 4 miles but then I was getting pain in my left ankle and hip due to my awkward running style. Jon overtook me at this point and looked quite strong. I was reduced to jog/walk for another 4 miles before the pain, wind and rain reduced me to walking for the next couple of miles. Ian caught me up with a couple of miles to go and I tagged along with him to the finish. Up to that point I had found this marathon to be well organised, this was to change dramatically with the debacle that faced us. We were forced to walk for ages to get the various post race items, the last being much needed drink, The medal had no date, and it was pot luck which T-Shirt you received, Jon got a Half Marathon shirt. Tring to find friends and family after proved to be a challenge with no signage telling us where to go. Then a 20 minute walk the other way uphill to catch the bus.
Would I do this again?.... No, unless they change the finish.

Eeeek hope the injury isn't too bad. I know the result isn't what you wanted but hope you managed to take some good stuff from the weekend. Ps I still think the time isn't that shabby!
Well done for finishing, sorry to read that you have an injury, your time is still very respectable - relax, recover and I am sure there is a lot more to come when you are fully fit again.
It REALLY was a shambles, the flight delays and cancellations pales in comparision
