Pb! After a1.16.40 at Fred Hughes 10 a month ago I was so hugely wowed and delighted that even despite going through 10 miles at Wokingham last weekend in 15.58 I didn't really have a target time I wanted to get and after some fighting talk with Adrian earlier in the week beating him became my only goal ;-)
Set off quite fast and soon found myself just behind Clare trying to keep up with her knew this was a big mistake as she is so speedy and also runs fast at the start. However being a competitive idiot to have let her go would seem like wimping out. I saw the first couple of splits and thought oh my god but still didn't want to slow down, really felt I was racing as like me Clare is competitive and every time I got onto her shoulder she shot off even faster. At about 5 miles I knew I couldn't keep racing like that so made avconcerted effort to actually get ahead and then that would be that I could slow a bit and if she came back past I'd have to let her go. Without Clare to chase splits definitely started to slow and I knew it was now all about digging in and holding on to any sort of speed for as long as I could. Powered up the incline at 6 miles but then miles 6 and 7 were agony and mile 8 not much better. Knew I'd slowed but too tired too even lift my wrist up to look at my watch too see by how much. Managed to pick it up in the last mile, probably because it was the last one. Time unbelievable but I was pretty close to collapsing in a ditch and dnfing!!
Note to me - do not stand near anyone you know at start of Reading!!!!!

Great running Katy, you are getting so fast now, only a minute behind my PB and closing the gap very quickly. You're WAVA score is going up fast as well. 36:30 at 5 miles smashes your 5 mile PB too. Very well done, if anyone deserves times like that, it's you for all the hard work you put into your training. x
