Notes & Comments

Was cold at the start so took a little while to get going. Ran steadily throughout. Had 90 second pitstop after 5 miles (semi-tactical as would have been needed later). Felt good through 8 miles and was still going well at Q Bridge. Flagged up the bridge and was weary along 1st Ave and struggled through the Bronx, but got a second wind entering Harlem and ran well to the park. Kept going ok through the park and was pleased to run that part without struggling for the first time. Realised too late that I was close to 3:10 otherwise would have put in a sprint to get under 3:10. That said, not too fussed as the goal was simply to enjoy it and finish well.

Main problem for lack of energy in the Bronx was lack of solid food. Hadn't eaten enough pre-race. Had only eaten a 'pre-race breakfast' amount, forgetting I had been up for nearly 6 hours by the start so was technically onto my second meal of the day by that point. Thankfully was able to get some bananas in the Bronx and Harlem and perked up massively after getting them.

Splits:

0-2 miles - 14:21 - 7:11 - slow start over V Bridge
2-5 miles - 20:27 - 6:49
5-6 miles - 6:32 - inc. toilet stop
6-8 miles - 13:27 - 6:44
8-10 miles - 13:48 - 6:54
10-12 miles - 13:58 - 6:59
12-14 miles - 14:13 - 7:07
14-16 miles - 14:55 - 7:28 - inc. Q Bridge
16-18 miles - 14:21 - 7:11
18-20 miles - 15:11 - 7:36 - faded into the Bronx over W Ave Bridge
20-22 miles - 15:11 - 7:36 - arrested the fade
22-24 miles - 15:11 - 7:36
24-26.2 miles - 16:54 - 7:38
