Notes & Comments

First marathon!! Went out really well, felt comfortable up until about mile 17, and then started to feel pain in quads. This got steadily worse and was very unpleasant particularly on the downhills (realised later this is explained by concentric contractions of muscles) but even running up the Dores hill at 18 miles was very tough going. Managed to struggle on. Pain didn't get much worse, but had to walk more than expected, but still managed to keep under 11 min miles. Next time need to do hill training to adapt quad muscles to downhill (had similar problem in Dundee half which had a lot of downhill). In the end, most of the run I really enjoyed, and never felt like giving up. Will be back again hopefully.
