SILVERSTONE HALF-MARATHON - 1:41.24 (Chip Time) - 933RD OF 6736 FINISHERS

This was my second half-marathon race in eight days, following last weekend's unexpected 1:40.54 PB in the Milton Keynes Half.

The dreamer in me was hoping that I'd have enough left 'in the tanks' for a full-on attempt at a sub-1:40 time today. But the realist in me knew, deep down, that my 2008/9 training regime of pretty much just 3 to 4 milers on the gym treadies wouldn't give me the stamina, endurance and leg strength needed.

And so it proved to be. I was definitely battle-weary today and had to ease off several times early on to avoid 'blowing up' completely. So, by about mile five, I set my target to be purely to run as even a paced effort as possible. I didn't even look at my times after mile 10 - just pushed the split button robotically whilst focusing on the track.

Finished with 1:41.24 (7.44 per mile average). This was surprisingly only 30 seconds slower than last week's PB and the 3rd best time of my 26th half-marathon finishes. So, no complaints whatsoever. I'm happy - especially as all my mile splits were within a 17 second banding.

If I'm to run more half-marathons through 2009 and into 2010 though, I think that I will have to re-introduce a long Sunday session. And maybe lose some of my 15st weight - yeah right.

(Mile 1 - 7.47 / Mile 2 - 7.39 / Mile 3 - 7.55 / Mile 4 - 7.42 / Mile 5 - 7.47 / Mile 6 - 7.41 / Mile 7 - 7.54 / Mile 8 - 7.37 / Mile 9 - 7.42 / Mile 10 - 7.38 / Mile 11 - 7.50 / Mile 12 - 7.47 / Mile 13 - 7.41 / Last 0.1 miles - 0.44)
