Notes & Comments
Gill Pimblott Memorial 5km Race: sunny and cold race; broke all the 'rules' for this one,re. pre race; set off too fast; very veerrrryyyy hilly course; muddy but in a good way; o.h. with me for a few hundred yards, then ahead for rest of race; no km/mile markers, annoyingly; on own around half mile mark, overtaken a lot; looked behind around 2mile mark to see a few runners were behind me (phew, lol); had to jump over a boulder at one point (narrow path); legs were achey most of race, breathing very laboured; really needed 'to go' feeling, perhaps a bit much water pre-race; paced a runner around 3.5km onwards; nice smiley clapping marshalls; last 'stretch' and running in a group with 4 others; finish line in sight, sprinted for it, breaking away from group; alongside a runner but was more bothered about needing 'to go'; finished a second ahead of other runner; enormously pleased to not have given in to walking; o.h. finished nearly 2mins earlier; exhausted initially but on a high post-race; waited to see Ron Hill, chatted to him, got a signed photo and a photo taken with the legend
pb missed by 7secs for me, a pb made for o.h.; got a medal; lovely race atmosphere, had a tough but exhilarating day
