That was a bit weird! After WW said on 3:15 thread that he sometimes feels like he can't complete a long run and me (and others) going on about how we don't have any problem with motivation or belief, I had a trickier "long" run! Not that 14 is that long, but it is for me, with 15 longest this year? I wanted 13 plus today, as a build on 10-12 before half mara and then half mara itself. A build towards 15 which is the start of marathon training weekend distances (up to 20 or more! Argh!) Went for flat, which makes sense, and was happy with slow. But right from the off it just felt hard. The right hip niggle didn't help. Of course, a genuine injury is a genuine reason for cancelling a longer run or indeed any run. But I really wanted to do today. I had felt tired and sore around Lochore the day before so why I thought a longer Sunday run would go better, I do not know! And also, not enough gym this week - Thu out at pub and Fri S was away so I was staying in with the dog. So not enough TLC on the old muscles and joints, perhaps. Had to go morning as helping sis and bro in law with house move in the pm. No time pressure but it was the only slot to do it. I was talking to mum on phone and ended up at the other end of the Loch Leven trail that I didn't mean to go to. Didn't matter though. That actually enforced the over 14 miles, which was fine! After an uncomfortable 2 or 3 first miles, I decided to just try and go a bit zen. I slowed down even more, got my breathing right down (breathing with mouth closed works well for me) and hence HR stays down. And by about 5 miles I was in a nice groove. It helped that the weather was lovely, 8C, not too windy, sun coming up. And the scenery there is stunning - water, trees, leaves, birds, squirrels, marshes, reeds, and the hills in every direction - north to the Grampians in the distance, west to the Ochils and then right at hand the Lomonds in the east and Benarty to the south. Glorious. So I ended up smiling and feeling much better. The pain didn't return until about 1-2 miles from the end. Said hi to plenty of people, runners and cyclists, then dog walkers as got back towards town. And Norman Smith, our club octogenarian runner, just setting out for 5 or so miles on same route. Great to see him. 85?! Amazing. So inspirational. So, all done, tired, but good run. Aren't they all?!
