Paths on the ground not matching the map, reoriented then found a string of trees across the path where eventually it felt simpler just to detour back by a wider path and take another route up. Great walk after that though, up to the hill fort at Moel Goedog, lunch, to the summit just beyond then looped back for a beer in Harlech
