Second session of LTR course. Much more time on the water today. Still in quad sculls but moved from 3 to stroke today and tried feathering the blades. So much to learn and need to work on keeping arms straight right until the end of the drive (which I do on the erg). Might need to adjust foot position to get better position at catch, which should probably help.

Awesome! Sounds like an interesting exercise.

I'm loving it so far, though finding it harder than I'd hoped to transfer technique on the erg to the water. Feeling it much more in the arms, shoulders and lower back, but some of that's down to poor technique, I think.

Glad you’re enjoying it. I was going to ask how the erg fitness and strength transferred. What is the experience/ background of the other beginners on the course? Do you want hey erg or are they totally in at the deep end?

We're in bubbles of 4 plus a coach, so I've not had a chance to find out too much. I think one of the others in my group has used an erg a bit, but I think generally it's a bit of a mixture. I feel as though the fitness from the erg has helped - one of the others was complaining about having very sore quads after the first session, but I didn't get that - and I think if I got the rhythm/timing of the stroke together, I probably wouldn't be noticing my arms and shoulders as much today. So overall I think the erg is good preparation. It's just much harder to keep it all together when you're trying to control long oars rather then an erg handle and also keep in time with your crew-mates!
