That's impressive Z1 pace!
AL I suspect heart rate would definitely have dipped into Z2 but feels much better to run to a consistent pace and not fluctuate as I normally have to if looking at the heart rate.
I know what you mean, but find I can often settle into a solid slow pace - years of practice with beginners help.
