Sunday Run with the harriers at the Leisuredrome, first in a couple months for me.
Lovely morning for a run, although a bit windy. However considering the dreadful 3 week spell of incessant heavy rain, wind, sleet, hailstones and dull skies in February, it was great to get a nice bright morning for a change.
A big turn out for a change too. The usual elders were there, Ar Hill, Double Dougie, Frank T, along with Young Fergus, Donna MacL, Robyn, John Monagh, The Gilloolies, Wee Anne J, Baldy Davy, Big Franco, a chap named Thomas and the McGales made an appearance for the first time in ages.
Myself and a group of others ran 8 miles in total, 4 out and 4 back along the canal to Kirky. Easy pace most of the way, picked it up ever so slightly on the way back. I ran a negative split despite the strong head and crosswinds on the way back. 37:41 on the way out, 35:50 on the way back. My particular group was, myself, Clare Gill, Donna, Dave and Franco.
In the final 800 metres to the gate I lengthened the stride and cranked up the pace to get the heart rate up and the blood pumping, Big Franco accompanied me side by side at this point, running straight into the strongest headwind. An enjoyable run I must say and pleased with the fitness despite missing a lot of consistent training due to work commitments and a lengthy bad cough.
Feel better now, yesterday I ran 1 hour+ for the first time in several months followed by 1 hour+ this morning. I am pleased to run 1 hour+ on two consecutive days. 61 mins yesterday and 73 mins today.
