Notes & Comments

Recovery run: Farmerie Road to the allotment; Mill Lane and North Street to Hall Road; track and permissive path (Cock Lane) to Steeplechase; Chimney Street; Brockley Green; Hundon Road; Clare Road and back up North Street.

Phew. The permissive path on Cock Lane was quite wet and alarmingly uphill: so much for "recovery". At the top, at Steeplechase, it turns into an old tarmac road and so the run continues until the end: a change of footwear would have been appreciated at that point. The roads refused to stop undulating. "Hills are our friends," as Jeremy would say.

Part of the choice of route was to pick up some points in Fetcheveryone's Fetchpoint game. That explains the short diversion at Chimney Street: there was a jewel or flower or something down there and it seemed a shame to miss it by so little. A bigger shame was missing a "ruby" near the Clare Road (but not quite near enough, it turns out). Hey ho.

The weather remained grey, but not as cold as it has been. The stretch up from Chimney Street was fun because it was: a) up and b) into the wind.

The legs are getting a bit tired but that's to be expected: no running for months, then day on day increases through the week: tomorrow is most unlikely to follow the same pattern. The idea is for an increasingly hard week as a bit of a shock, then rewind and run another one - two or three week-long micro cycles are probably the best I can do with only 5 or 6 weeks to the first one of April's two marathons.
