Notes & Comments
Graveyard, Hall Road, nameless ditch.
I kept looking at my Fitbit. I wanted to be sure I still had a pulse. It couldn't have been checking the distance or speed: nothing much of either of them was happening.
It was grey, drizzly and horrible, but Fiona said "man up" and, like all omega males, after asking "how high?" on the way up, I dragged my 8 month pregnant short, fat and ugly carcass across the churchyard to discover that my Furoshikis had no grip whatsoever on the slippy, muddy, grassy... er, stuff underfoot. Not quite the start of my aggressive weight loss and get-fit program (did I mention next April's Peterborough Marathon? No? It's only a marathon - don't get excited).
It seemed to have stopped drizzling quite so much after I'd struggled round a few km of Suffolk countryside. There was a very strange, badly-disguised phone mast (I think) that was trying to look like a fake tree from a 1930's film. I'll take a photo next time.
The usual great views of Hundon from Hall Road were hid in the mist. Probably just as well: it looks quite a long way away from there.
No semi-infinite succession of rolling hills this time: just a long, gentle rise to Hall Road, a gentle drop to Valley Wash and then the pitons and fixed ropes up Church Street to get back to the centre of the bustling megalopolis that is Hundon.
Short and slow, but I was a bit knackered afterwards. What a great way to write off the rest of the day!
