Notes & Comments

Felt shocking for the first 4 miles. Started with a 7.33 which although too fast, wasn't ridiculous. Calmed down to a 7.52 and then a 8.09 to see if i could feel better. Didn't. Then served up a 8.57 which may have been uphill and long but thought to myself "how slow do I need to run before I feel OK?" So I gritted my teeth and tried to run a little closer to 80% HR. Maybe it was the terrain or the fact that the pre-race gels had started to kick in but miles 5, 6, 7 and 8 were much better. There were no mile markers at 6,7 and 8 so I ran on HR only and tried to keep it at 160 or so. Mile 9 marker brought a nice surprise - I was 3 secs inside 8mm pace. Having said that, I was passing all the peeps that had passed me in the first 4 miles. Head down and try to concentrate was what I kept saying to myself as sub 1.45 became a distinct possibility. 10 miles in 1.19.57. The route became a swerve thru Clydebank shopping centres at this point but I knew I had to keep under 8s. The last windy 1 mile was hard but somehow pressed the gas again to see a new HR high of 185 and a new shiny pb by 6.15. Rather happy.
