Soditandwalk Hill, anti-clockwise.
Last night's weather forecast gave a chance of sunny spells at 9:00am so, instead of leaving earlier (to avoid the bad weather predicted at 9:00am by yesterday morning's forecast - I hope you're keeping up here), Ian, Jeremy and I left Forton at 9:00am in what could charitably be described as 'steady drizzle'.
We made a short detour up Southside Road to collect Jacqui and then headed off into the wilds of Hampshire. Well, up Sugar Lane and onto the track at the end, at least. The route is a familiar one, picking up the Test Way and heading north to the furthest reaches of the parish. At the northmost point, it leaves the TW and plunges down a muddy track alongside the 2nd of the huge digesters then up "Soditandwalk" Hill, so-called because, many years ago, we were being accompanied by two Fionas on their bikes and they decided―sod it―to get off and walk.
Jacqui has a tendency to disappear into the distance up hills and, as Ian and Jeremy had mentioned something about this, I decided to toddle off after her on the 1st hill and catch her, just to prove a point. The point mostly being that, while I *could* do that once, I was really not going to be able to do anything else. Which was a shame, as there was another hour or so's running in front of us.
The rain didn't let up at all―in fact, the forecast was for the weather to get significantly worse by noon―and it became very blowy as well at Faulkner Downs Farm, in the Frozen North of Longparish.
Had there been any cobwebs, I'm sure they'd have been thoroughly blown (or washed) away. A great excuse for a hot shower and a great start to the day.
