I did it! My first GO33, and my third ultramarathon of the year. It was great. I felt cold at the start, and had a nosebleed as well, but I got through the first few muddy miles at a fairly slow pace (it was mostly uphill, plus it was fairly congested). I was able to hit my stride when the sun came out on the flatter section after CP1, and apart from a few niggles (left ankle, right knee, stones in my shoes), I loved every minute. I want to do all my training runs around Strathyre and Lochearnhead!
So yeah, the climbs were pretty nasty, but I used the really steep bits for walking breaks and to have a drink. The downhill sections almost destroyed my left ankle, but after the big climb at Lochearnhead (about 18 or 19 miles) I was absolutely flying. I felt strong at the end, and I had a great final section after CP4, and I *almost* caught that bloke at the finish
Fuel and stuff:
Double-caffeine gel before the start; gels at 6, 12, 18 (double-caffeine) and 27 miles. Malt loaf at CP2, banana at CP3, malt loaf at CP4.
Great fun.
