English Half Marathon, Warrington - 1:27:13 - but a trip to the medics' tent

Felt great for the first half of the race - but I was running a half marathon at 10K pace. I'd planned my mile splits - but was running way ahead of them on the hills of the first half. I was trusting that the largely downhill second half would be easier. But it wasn't. I hadn't done enough race training at this distance, and by the last two miles, my pace and cadence were way down, and my heart rate way up ... too high, I now see. That's why I stumbled and fell 5 metres before the end and hardly had the energy to get up again. The fabulous St John's Ambulance team were right onto it and helped me to get over the line - then dragged me off into their tent for oxygen, cleaning up the road rash on my knee, ice to cool me down, and a lovely lie down.

A great time - a 6 minute PB and the 3rd fastest UK V65 time for the half this year - but in the end badly executed. Lots of food for thought here. The finish line photos will be interesting.
