6 minute PB!
Another race with 12,000 people. A bit different from the Belchamp Otten loop.
Couldn't believe the amount of people "traffic" - at least it slowed me down on km 1.
An unofficial 5km pb "wind down" on Friday may not have been the best preparation, but then I am not known for good strategic thinking. Fireworks stopped us getting to sleep on time and then the bedside alarm went off at 5am (and 5.10 and 5.20) but even so this was better preparation than for the Barcelona 1/2 marathon.
Can't say that there was too much of a race strategy except to try and not go out too fast. Well, loads of people clogging the route helped on that score.

Could not concentrate on the sights of London, and to be on honest, struggled to keep in touch with the Garmin. Noticed at the half way point that time was looking pretty good, but felt absolutely shattered (is that a surprise? It is meant to be a race).
Reviewing the splits now shows that things were looking a bit dodgy at km7 - and there were a fair number of people walking so that looked really tempting. Have had to walk in the previous 3 10k races - but not today!.
Cannot believe that the time picked up so well in the final km - had the same temptation as at Barcelona, could easily have just sat down at the "400m to go" sign (or the "200 m to go" sign for that matter).
Well chuffed to come in under 61 minutes (Official time showed 1.00.49).
Never want to race again.

But those 49 seconds look awfully tempting….

Amazing Tim, from a 40minute walk (ish!?) from Southend Park Run to knocking out sub 61 minute 10km, the progress is massive - keep going!
