Ashby 20!
Chip Time 3:19:41 can't really compare to last year and shouldn't be treating as a race but still chuffed with 11 mins quicker than last year
Last long long run before Brighton - Bring on the taper
I really really like this race, despite it being quite a distance to travel and an early start. Its very well organised and has a really good atmosphere. The marshals are great and the drink stations are the best I have experienced anywhere. They are so well manned with so many happy encouraging people with bottles, cups, chocolate, jelly babies, gels and sponges. At the finish is lots more support and encouragement where they announce your name coming in and then present you with a great goody bag full of food and the fab Ashby 20 Hoody
We set off just after 7am, with Mr Features very kindly driving myself, Mizzle and HH. I took a picnic to eat and drink in the car although struggled to eat due to nerves. We arrived and parked at a school and made our way to the race although we never bothered to go to the Leisure Centre and with the nice weather decided to stay and leave our bags at the finish. Was a good decision and managed to avoid all the long queues for the loo's. We were so lucky with the weather, just about perfect conditions and no wind!
We were walked to the start and with a siren we were off. My plan for today was to do 5 miles at long run pace so 10:30m/m, middle 10 miles at MP so 10:15m/m and then the last 5 back to long run pace. Well the first mile worked! but after that it all went a bit to pot. I remember from last year that it had some hills but that it wasn't as bad as Stamford but I forgot how undulating it was. I am rubbish at pacing myself with hills and undulations as I like to go up hills too fast. I like to attack them which meant I didn't slow my pace enough after or before a down hill part. Some of the mile markers were just after down hill sections so I didn't stand a chance. This made me quite frustrated in the first 5 to 7 miles as I don't like to deviate from what I'm told but I decided to stop worrying about it and just run and enjoy it and see how I felt. I can see where the downhill parts were as my calorie count is so low!
I started at the back so overtook plenty of people especially on the second lap as there were many walking up the hills, it is a tough course. One lady in the last 5 miles or so kept overtaking me on the down hills or flat parts and obviously didn't want me in front of her but those last couple of miles I powered up the hills and didn't see her again
Great race and great new hoody so very happy, despite not doing what I was told
Only 3 weeks till Brighton.......EXCITED!!!!!!
