Notes & Comments
Oops, forgot to hit stop in excitement. 3:46:14 officially. Lovely day - great support, everyone really helpful and excited about the kilt. Kit wasn't even that uncomfortable - kilt, socks fine. Shirt, waistcoat, jacket bit restrictive and hot. But chest protection worked (plasters + lotsa vas!). Hat was hot but stayed on head despite wind. Bow tie was crooked! Sporran was only annoyance. Banging on hip, tried pinning down and strapping with petzl strap, but no use. In end just left it, jammed into belt hole as best as poss (let leather strap slide through to keep more in place not sliding on chain). Heavy gels made it worse, so I consumed early (2 miles! then 6 and 10 roughly, wee stops too! Then from half way it was uphill for 7 miles (14 -> 21 and into the unusual easterly). Kept it going though. Started last 124 place and finished 23, so passed a lot of folk! Shoes and socks (karrimor's underneath the wool socks) fine, no blisters. Again vas helped, I think. Felt really good. Actually had to stop from doing 7:30s after the turn away from wind at 21 to the finish. One slow down at 23 or 24 with a Lochaber guy - I was deliberately conserving it for a fun finish! He got his PB too - sub 4, actually 3:49! Wee hill at the end, but it's the end so push up that and there was the lovely crowd waiting, cheering, music blaring, a couple of heel kicks that the photographers love and we're done. So here's what I said in threads (with links):
Thanks for your good wishes over the weekend all. The Callanish Stones marathon, running in a kilt and world record attempt all went well. Weather was perfect - sun, but not as hot as it has been, wind, but not as much as they sometimes get up in the Isles. Perfect really.
No chaffage - the kilt is great to run in, actually (might not have been much fun if it rained though!) Jacket, waistcoat, winged collar shirt, bow tie, hat and sporran less suitable for running. But hey, it was all for da kids Aberlour Child Care Trust are *very* happy with all your kind donations, thanks so much guys - we're coming up for £2400 + tax + corporate top up, so it's over£3K, I think justgiving.com )
Even made it on to that *other* place

And here's a video to go with that photo that Nelly kindly posted.
