MB99 After a series of disappointing performances in the morning's races the relay team were really up for making amends. I took the first leg and identified two other runners who looked like they meant business. Was actually expecting one of them to go off like a train and my plan was to keep with him as much as possible. The gun went and I was off like a greyhound (( ;-) )). I'd misjudged the competition a bit however and soon found myself running on my own, at one point I even thought I'd gone the wrong way even though it was a straight road. Eventually looked back and saw that I was about 20m ahead. Wasn't sure where the changeover point was and didn't have a watch so just concentrated on holding on for as long as I could. Was eventually caught just before the finish and handed over to the 2nd leg runner in 3rd place but well in contention. There was then walk, jog and then a sprint to get back to the finish line to watch the grand finale. It finished up with our anchor man coming home a very close third. So another BRONZE medal for the day and one very tired but happy relay team. Apparently we were in 2nd going into the final leg but our man made a very valiant attempt to close a 130m gap to try and claim gold. He almost did it but faded near the end and got pipped for silver. Nothing ventured nothing gained though. Great team performance though and made the trip worthwhile. Unaffiliated 5:17 5:17 5:17
