JEJ Entered on the day and didn't expect to have anything like enough endurance with no long runs since August. I was right. Happy to get through 30km before my legs simply ran out of endurance. Eventually cramp in my left hip flexor got me when crossing the 4km bridge into Venice. Determined to finish, I slowed to survival pace but could suddenly feel the heat and it was mentally tough not to stop and walk. The kms felt like miles and I became concious that I'd stopped sweating.

Limited walking to about 20m at the 39km point as I downed a Powerade - that seemed to give me enough energy to reach the end without going over 7 minute mile pace.

Great run, but not fast course, especailly with head wind for what felt like the whole run.

Think I now know what PaulaR meant when she came up with 'aerobically, didn't feel like I'd raced'. Unaffiliated 2:28:57 2:34:18 2:34:18 78.78

marders I claim sub 2.30 split on my Garmin! Not a bad training run I guess so close to post Berlin and being so fat. Victoria Park Harriers & Tower Hamlets AC 2:23:19 2:24:08 2:30:35 80.72
