Compton Marathon and 16 mile Challenge - Saturday, 20th May 2023 (09:00am start) After an enforced break of 3 years the Compton Challenge is once again returning to the race calendar. For the 23rd Compton Downland Challenge you have the choice of a full marathon (26.7 miles), or a shorter 16 mile run. Both options are a multi-terrain in nature, with the event starting/finishing on the Compton Village recreation ground (Burrell Road, Compton, Berks, RG20 6NP). Both routes meander around and over the picturesque Berkshire Downs, following clearly marked loops that criss-cross the ancient Ridgeway. The event will take runners along a variety of quiet tracks, trails and bridleways (which can get muddy when wet), plus some short, traffic free road sections. There will be an opportunity to switch between the marathon and 16 mile routes at the 9 mile point. Entry fees for both races will be £32.50 (before 10th May 2023) or £38 on the day, plus £2 if unaffiliated. The event will be held under UKA rules (TRA race permit number 5219) Race cut-off: All runners who have not reached the 9 mile point by 11:20 will be directed towards the 16 mile route. There is an overall cut-off time of 7 hours which should give enough time to complete each event, and enjoy a great day on the Downs Additional features: Marshals at all major turns Aid stations positioned every 3 to 4 miles offering drinks & snacks (please bring a cup to help minimise single use plastics) There is a total of 1,500ft of ascent on the marathon route and 1,050ft of ascent on the 16 mile route Each finisher will receive a unique hand-thrown mug made by the White Horse Pottery A free BBQ offering meat & veggie burgers will be available from approx. 11:30 for all runners (also for supporters with donation) Free tea & coffee available throughout the day Showers & toilets available Ample parking at the race venue See the Compton Harrier’s website for other essential informationLucyG01:17pm, 6th Jan 2023
