Blister Found this one tough, especially since I haven't been running since the Tough Ten 2 weeks ago and still got a cold. Ran it with club mate and used this as a good training run for Bath half, but I probably couldn't have run much faster anyway. Finished 235 out of 769.

Running Fish first time for this race, had heard lots of good things about it, and wasnt disappointed. very well organised with a high density of marshalls, nearly all with encouraging comments. excellent variety of terrain, making the most of available features. a real pleasure to run, and although demanding, didnt seem like a chore. it lasted about the length of a 1/2m but felt shorter than a 10k.

RFJ Arrived in plenty of time and prepped in the usual way, it was very cold and windy but dry.

Looked at the map as there were some significant changes to the race including a change in milage now 11.5 miles and not 11.

A lot of people at the start area (approx 800-900), so the start was a bit manic, the first half mile or so was on road then in to the fields and straight down a hill in to a large puddle of **** not avoidable so ran strainght through it....

For the next few miles following farmers fields, canal paths and a few undulations. The at about 4.5m the gully, about a mile up a guess what a gully very muddy and very hard work, this is where the g=hard work starts, the 1st of 4 monster hills that are impossible to run yet alone walk, crawling seemed appropriate.

I would hate to think what my heart rate would be......

So finally to the fouth hill (aptly named the (Sting in the tail) up and over the white horse of Pewsey. Finally onto the flat, completly knackered then to clean all the mud of we go through the shoe wash, (the local freezing cold stream - about six paces accross and 2 feet deep bbrrrrr......) Then homeward bound in a very tired state to the finish line in 1:39:15 (Pos 190).

The terminator - will you be back - yes I will, this is the best race of the year ( and fairly hard as well..............................................

Now for a bath

Yellow Fang I went along to this with three other Thames Valley Triathletes: Kevin, James and Big Tim. It started off in Pewsey Vale, which is a lovely part of the country. It was really cold though. There were about 1000 runners including about a score of soldiers. The first part of the race wasn' t too difficult. I was thinking that it wasn't as difficult as the Rough n Tumble, which is a similar race organised by the same club. I tried picking off the squadies. I passed quite a few, though they were running in long trousers. At least they weren't wearing boots, though the trainers they were wearing didn't seem very good because I saw two of them come off in the mud. The strangest sight was watching someone urinate while continuing to run. First time I've seen that! All the tough hills came in the second half. There were three, which you had to walk up. By the third I was starting to feel pretty tired. My calf had started to cramp and a toenail was cutting into my toe. It seemed to take a hell of a long time to the finish from the 'Sting in the Tail'. I was suffering and it just kept on going on an on. The diversion through the river wasn't too nice either. I nearly fell over and it sapped the strength from my legs. Finally, with people passing me left and right, the finish appeared. I was actually fairly pleased with my time. I was also fairly pleased my achilles didn't seem to react much. A lot of thanks to Pewsey Vale Running Club. For a small club they seem to hold a lot of races, and they all seem well organised from what I've seen.
