_andy Note to self - running with a streaming head-cold will affect your race times. Body not going as it should have by a long shot - very frustrating. But I did race anyway. The big decision was whether to just take it easy for the first half of the race and see how my body was coping, or just go for it and risk collapsing at some point on the course. There was only one sensible answer. Then the gun went and I just ran. So much for being sensible. Alas, my body wasn't firing on all cylinders by a long shot and I trundled round feeling like crap, questioning why I was doing this at all and just waiting for the end (i.e lying in a heap or the finish). Spent the up-hill bits going backwards (relative to lots of others) and don't think I passed anyone else. I did dig deep at the end as someone tried to run me down and take my (rightful) place from me (I just DON'T look back - it's a matter of principle). Managed not to throw up immediately after the race, much to my surprise and relief. Looks like 31st place. Forgot my Garmin and then my stopwatch didn't start at the gun, so not sure what the exact time was. 34:17 guesstimate based on others times (Last year was 33:40 and I'm in better shape this year, except for illness). Grrrrr!!! frustrating. As ever, good organisation from Carnegie, lovely setting, far too warm (and that was at 7 o'clock in the evening). Excellent feed and chat afterwards. Fat Boy Great little race made very tough with the hills and very warm conditions. Placed about 11th in a field of about 100 runners. Good to meet up with several over Fetchies. Carnegie Harriers 25:55 31:00 31:00 70.33
