Long run and race report

Long run 24.56 miles (23ish)

Race report from the Rough and Tumble 10(10.4miles of MUD and HILLS)

Got there early and set out to get my pre race 5 miles in(start of the long run) and with Rach needing a warm up as well bagged just over 6 hilly miles. Went to the start and decided I would hang onto John(just quicker than me at XC)for as long as possible.(legs were aware of hard XC yesterday). The off and as usual you get the nutter who runs about 5min pace for half a mile(from then on he went backwards). First mile and already there were 8 of us away from the rest straight into walk run hop hill climbing and 6th by mile 2. By now it was obvious I had got my shoes wrong and I was at Cannock & Stafford AC 1:10:00 1:11:47 64.46
Running Fish really enjoyable, and seemed to be over quickly, which is usually the sign of a good race. couldnt expect much more from less than 30mpw training. on the hilly stuff technique helped to hide my lack of condition, but the flat bits towards the end were hard work. Rach E Looking forward to the pain!! Time prediction based off recommendations of adding 10 mins plus a bit more to your 10 mile pb. ***UPDATE*** Have to say I actually didn't enjoy this too much. Yellow Fang I was pleased to run this race a few minutes faster than last year, although last year I had cycled there from Wantage. I wore my football boots because my other trail shoes didn't have enough grip. I didn't regret the decision, although a couple of miles was on road. I took the race fairly steady from the start, because I knew from experience what an energy-sapping course it was. There was quite a stiff breeze along the ridge, which definitely added to the chill factor. Lots of lovely cakes at the end as normal. Reading Roadrunners 1:30:00 1:26:52 54.24
MarkC After last year I'd like to get as close as I can to 1hr 30. A lot will depend on the conditions, of course. UPDATE: Race director (rightly) described conditions as both Unaffiliated 1:30:00 1:31:54 50.35

Flying Ant Ran this for the event so didn't push it that hard. Calf muscles were still a bit tight on the big hills, suffered a bit on the last hill. Black Pear Joggers 1:44:58 43.73
Heavyweight It was rough & I tumbled more than once. Great fun though & I thoroughly enjoyed it in a perverse kind of way. Dont think my trainers were really up to coping with the slippery surface - did a fair impression of Bambi on ice more than once. Did manage to beat Chris Chataway :-) - albeit only by a few seconds. UKnetrunner 1:43:00 1:51:45 43.90

RuthB2 Hills aren't my friend, so expecting quite a slow time for this, but it looks fun! *update* great race - loved it all, but not fast by any means. Whole race was wither mud, hills, single file or a combination of all three! highly recommended Unaffiliated 2:09:45 39.38
