Coffeeman Running Going to be pacing my son James in his first 10k where he wants just to break the hour. Ambitions got raised after James's tempo run this week and we decided to go for a time of around 52 mins. Arrived at Ravenstonedale to a great welcome from the Howgill Harriers in the Black Swan pub in Ravenstonedale. There were about 120 runners, mostly local club athletes and the race set off for two loops on the lanes around this moorland village. Well marked, well martialled, fairly hilly and pretty testing in the stiff wind blowing down through the valleys. It was also a bit chilly as we were at an altitude of around 800 feet. James and I set of together and slipped into a rhythm for the first 2 miles at about 8:15 pace. We speeded up to a 7:30 pace for the next mile and on the uphill out of the village it became pretty obvious that this loping 20 year old was being helb back by his dad! So I bade him to go on while I got involved in trying to maintain my pace and started to dream of a sub 50. Plenty of competition from a handful of runners around me and the sight of James just within view got me motivated and I sprinted for the line on the downhill back to the village to a time of just over 49 mins. I knew I should be capable of such a time - just needed the motivation.
The welcome after the race on a chilly day was even better, with free homemade vegetable soup and a roll in the pub back bar afterwards. I have to confess we washed it down with a couple of pints of UKnetrunner 46:25 46:25 55:00 49:08 60.98
Grey Badger Didn't run well. My breathing was all over the place even after 1/2 a mile and my legs were feeling heavy again for some reason. Nice course, quite a few ups and downs and it was very breezy in exposed places. Well run event by very friendly people. Was 16th out of about 140. Jenson Last minute (well 30 mins before start) decided to give it a go and if felt too ill (had bad cold for last week) would just stop at halfway as the route popped back through the village. So, all things considered, I was pleased with the time.

First half quite uphill, second half certainly not flat but pleasantly more downhill. Very windy, interesting to see loads of 4x4s out drag hunting (basically fox hunting in cars, I was told by a local farmer who was in the pub in Kirkby Stephen later), never dull course.

Really well organised, great to be able to use nice toilets (repeatedly) in the hotel at start and lush soup and bread at end. Would certainly do it again. esk vally fell club 43:20 48:09 50:46 58.75
Kev Scone Not sure if trained enough for this as other commitments including work & family, and now illness means missed too many runs, did a training 10k last Saturday night at 54mins may be outside predicted by a teeny bit. At least not too far to travel/run

Was too ill to run it but have looked at the route on Gmap and will give it a spin sometime as live very locally, cheers Howgill Harriers 47:58 1:00:38 50:00
Lisrun A windy day but dry. The course was rarely flat and entirely on quiet country roads. It went through some very attractive countryside. The race headquarters was the very nice pub the Black Swan in Ravenstonedale and they served good soup and a roll there after the race. Very friendly locals and race organisers.
