Mobius Race Report - Mounts Bay 10k, Marizion, Cornwall

Bearing in mind the foul weather I was pleasantly surprised to see such a large crowd of willing Sunday morning masochists.

I have previously made a decision to take this race relatively easy as I wasn't feeling 100% so being a wimp I thought I'd wear my rain jacket.

Mistake number 1. I was way too hot. Lesson learnt

We started off downhill, all jostling for space in the narrow country lane. No-one fell fortunately. Then the field spread out. I noticed that my Polar indicated a mile about 30 metres short of the first mile marker.

As an aside, at the end of the race it was showing 6.6 miles as opposed to 6.22 miles. So I've now recalibrated from 0.929 to 0.876, Bear in mind then that my splits were slightly out. Hopefully my new calibration will be more accurate for future runs.

Anyway after a couple of miles I came across a friend running, she had one serious cold and throughout the rest of the race I was waiting for her to collapse. She sounded terrible. Give her credit she maintained the pace and didn't give in. I would have. Well done Helen

One girls cold was my silver lining, this allowed me to run at an even pace. To be fair I obviously wasn't fully recovered myself and was working hard.

Compared with my 10 mile run a couple of weeks ago you can see the difference

10 mile - 1hr25min - Av 8.31min/mile - Av HR 157

10K - 53.38min - Av 8.37 min/mile - Av HR 162

So I worked harder for less time and distance and was slower

But nevertheless it was a PB :-)

paskha It was pretty wild out there today, set off at a good pace & managed to hold on!! Julie & I passed each other a few times, then off she went, but I didn't lose sight of her! that definitely helped ... I'm just really chuffed to have got under the hour in my present state of fitness & fatness!!!!!!!! the race was FULL a few weeks ago, 400 max, no results up yet, I was 18 secs to the Start, this will be the official time. the course is on country lanes NOT along the coast, the waves were coming over the lighthouse at LOW tide this morning, the sea looked higher than me as I cycled home on the back road (now high tide) even though 30 metres above sea level------------------PRE-RACE NOTES: No chance of a PB! I've got some extra weight on at the moment - it would be nice to get under the hour - see how I do at Blaythorne (10 miles) 2 wks before, my pace will be about the same ... Yog-Sothoth Gotta break last years time!

Sorry PB betting folk. I was feeling rubbish, and ran a personal worst over this course - nearly two minutes slower than last year. Unaffiliated 39:16 41:28 39:30 41:28 68.97
