Boycie Gotta be time for a sub 36. a cheeky bet on this flat fast one could be in order! UPDATE: Man I lost the plot big time here! Went off far too hard - 1st km in 3.25 - was about 4th at this point, when a young lady came past me. Boycie machismo took over here and so I kept with her - 2nd km in 6.52, 3rd km in 10.19 - by this point I realised that she wasn't slowing, but I was going to have to or else I would be walking! Went through 5k in 17.39, by which point my legs were v. heavy and my mind was thinking v. unpositive thoughts! Managed to keep 3.45 per km going, until km 8, when for some reason a turn around a bollard slowed me up and then running into a head wind meant a 3.57km and PB looking unlikely :-( managed to quicken up to 3.41 final km but missed out by 8s.

Morals of this story:

a) Don't automatically assume that you can beat any woman - particularly when the woman involved is ranked in the top 10 marathon runners in the UK for 2008.
b) Don't automatically assume that because 3.24 pace felt comfortable for 1k that it will feel comfortable for another 9.
c) Sometimes your brain does know what it's talking about, contrary to the view put forward by Brain Training!!! Unaffiliated 34:46 36:02 35:59 36:37 72.13

morgrunning managed a pb by 50 secs, but should have run a lot quicker, started off too quick! and then got stuck in no mans land. Mentally gave up at 7km. Good race, well organised and perfect for a pb. Croft Ambrey RC 35:11 35:11 35:00 35:11 75.72

WildeRover Very, very, very happy!!!!!

Flat as a pancake and very fast.

Very nearly didn't go - I've been ill this week and didn't think I was going to be particularly strong or fast. The plan was to run to 'feel' for the first couple of km - and see what that told me. I was expecting to go 5 or 5:10 for those first two - then I would know I was on for about a 51-52, so I could just keep it steady, not worry and use it as a fast tempo training for Wednesday.

Ran comfortably and went through the first km in 4:45. Thought that was a bit fast so checked my vital signs, made sure I wasn't pushing and eased through the next km in.........4:45. A bit worried at this point because it felt really good - but I was expecting it to fall apart big time and feel really bad fairly soon. Kept running to feel and kept times around 4:50-4:55 through to 6km. The seventh was the first when it started to hurt and legs felt a bit jelly like, so I just eased back a bit and still ran 5 or 5:05 through 7 and 8. At this point I decided that if the wheels did come off, then I could survive the last 2 - so I held it steady to 9 and started to push a bit and picked off a few runners through to the finish. At the end I was suprised, not just how quick I was, but how well I had paced it. Really pleased - although a bit daunted about what I have to try to beat in future.
