Bodge A very hilly half, will be just using it as a run out in prep for the Marathon next weekend.
Leek half marathon is by no means an easy half. From the start you go down hill for the first half mile knowing that you will have that climb and a little bit more to run up to the finish. The peak of the first climb comes at 1 mile only to descend straight away and start climbing again. Just past the 3 mile marker you start descending only to have a steady climb now with small breaks to the 7 mile marker. Just after 7 sees a sharp descent and if you can keep the momentum it will get you to the 9 mile marker. From here on in you run back over the way you came out, with the thought of that last hill leading up to the finish line.

With this little knowledge of the course I decided on the take it steady approach to 7 miles and only then start to pick the pace up on the way back. With a fetch vest in sight with three miles to go I tried again to kick but when you’re dragging 92 kilos around and with the odd hill thrown in for good measure it wasn’t to be, however I did manage to pull one place back in my league I am running in and finished third in my group.

Pleased with my time as it is a PB for this hard course and now it’s a case of taking things steady in prep for the Wolverhampton Marathon next Sunday.

clairster wow what a toughie!! and what hills..but what great views. agree with siggers though, once up and onto the roaches things picked up a lot..apart from the steep descent off them. Good to meet a few fetchites too! Stockport Harriers & AC 1:41:11 1:43:07 1:55:05 56.09
flanker Just a training run...

If the hills are as a bad as people say, anything under 2 hrs will do. Todmorden Harriers & AC, Trail Running Association, Fell Runners Association, LDWA 1:34:49 1:51:33 1:59:59
Greenman Third time at Leek I'm sure the hills get steeper every year. I never felt really comfortable the whole way yet still came in under my best for the course by 30 secs. I still can't work out why the sun never seems to shine on the Roaches-not that I'm complaining really-that climb in the heat would be just too much. Thanks to the Organisers and Marshalls, I'll definintely hope to be back again next year. Grantham Running club 1:20:38 1:22:31 1:28:10 67.82

sammie Great race, with fantastic views. Extremley hilly so i took it easy for the first eight miles. I somehow managed to find a lot of energy around 10 miles and made up a lot of time up until the end what a killer!! Pleased with this for my first ever half!! Siggers what a tough, but great race, initially I was hoping for 2hrs but after doing it I am very pleased with my actual time, it was funny, for the first 6 miles I didn't feel I was running well, then once I got on the road by the Roaches everything seemed to pick up, the hill off the Roaches was worse than any of the up hill ones, I couldn't relax because it was too steep, oooh the quads are going to hurt tomorrow.
