Northern Exile I've never really ran this race well. The first time I did it - 2004 i think - I had a stinking hangover and it's sort of set a precedent! It's a tough course and I have no illusions - I train on the course all the time, it's nearly my backyard - so I reckon 1:17 is a good target.

Stop Press: Had a bit of a cold, so the Gods weren't with me but all the same I ran it sensibly and knocked a minute and a half off last year's effort - and did a negative split too, I'm not usually that well-behaved! A bit disappointed not to get under 1.18, but by golly I was close! Harrogate Harriers & AC 1:13:22 1:13:22 1:17:00 1:18:21 60.26

Slickchicks I have had nearly 3 weeks out due to an ear infection, doctor cleared me ok to race on the friday. I went out for 3 miles steady on the Saturday. York Knavesmire Harriers 1:05:30 1:13:58 1:21:30 54.34
Slider45 Had a decent race and happy with my time. Entertained pretentions towards the hour but was disabused pretty sharpish. Hills seemed hillier than last year and I feel I started to flag with a couple of miles to go. Surprised by the finish line for the second year running! Thanks to everyone for the bets and the good luck messages - it was fantastic to have that much backing. Valley Striders AC 56:54 1:03:33 1:04:00 1:03:33 69.27
