Great Edinburgh Run 10K

Sun May 6 2007
52 Entrants Club PB SB Pred Time WAVA
_andy 530ft of uphill with strong gales, but at least the rain held off. The start was great and I even saw myself on TV afterwards. The waves at the start worked nicely, although I was standing next to someone checking his 55min race split times on his wristband next to me eventhough it was the sub-40min part of the green wave. Although the green wave was meant to be for 46-60min runners, the organisers had a sub-40 and a 40-45 min zone in it (well done to them), and this worked well for me: I had a nice clear road throughout and just spent the run overtaking (for which there was plenty of space where I was). The downhill-only first couple of miles made for a worryingly fast start, as did the descent past Waverly and down the Royal Mile. Holyrood Park was a complete nightmare, with that endless gradient always visible in front and gales that made forward progress tricky. Not a course for a PB, althoug I wasn't too far off: a top 300 finish. Kinross Road Runners 37:17 40:53 42:52 63.15
Baza No prediction, just going out to enjoy this race ahead of the Auld Toun 10K on Wenesday evening Carnegie Harriers 36:28 36:54 43:34 61.35
Big N Hardly ran in the 2 weeks before the race due to work and having to go to London. Not too bad though considering the lack of training and the conditions on the day. Unaffiliated 56:17 57:03 55:00 57:03 0.00

biru Felt very good all the way through the race today. A fantasic course, although with that wind and a number of steep hills not really one to PB on. A little disappointed to get an XXL T-Shirt in the goody bag (I'm sure I got it from the Standard Large Section)...will no doubt come in handy if I ever take up Darts or Sumo Wrestling in the future! Edinburgh Athletic Club 35:11 35:11 35:57 74.32
bungee Will be happy with this time as there are 3 'decent' hills that I can remember of from last year! Wasn't going to go for a PB but the temptation is too much!!! So its up to you if you fancy a flutter on me. I wouldn't say I am 100% confident but I am going to go for it.....
UPDATE .... sorry folks I tried but the wind & hills just weren't making it happen for me today. Nairn Road Runners 53:50 53:52 54:40 56:00 57.94

CPMINAS The 3 hills starting from Arthur's seat onwards, the fiery heat (at times) followed by strong gusting side winds robbed me of a new PB; but I ought to be able to set the record straight with the next two 10Ks, especially the Swansea Bay flat 10K course. Lyns Could have been worse! Have had injury worries and true to form my left knee was sore before I even reached 3km but it eased off and except for a stabbing pain on the hill just before 9km it wasn't too bad.
