RichardNathan Pre: Training was going so well with 20 miles covered in 2 hours 41 but my knee is really hurting. Went for a 4 mile run today (Thursday before the race) and had to stop because could feel it twinging. Very worried. Potential for a 3 45 but if knee goes could be as much as 4.30 Post: First marathon. Very pleased with my time. Younger brother over took me mile 22 and did 3hrs 26! Started getting difficult at mile 18 and really struggled from mile 22 (agony!). Last 4 miles I was varying pace between very slow jog/walk to 8.5 min miles, paced myself wrong in these miles and struggled otherwise pace was spot on throughout race targetting 8 min miles (see splits). Had LOTS of gels which seemed to work, though stomach was ruined afterwards. Walk back to the shuttle bus was absolutley ridiculous after a mara. Next time bring warm clothes! Don't ever want to do a mara again Splits as follows. Chris Bell Writing these comments on 29th September 2014 - looking back I am happy with my time! However, race didnt go to plan. Held 7.20 pace for 20 miles then fell off the edge of the world and jog, walk crawled to the finish!
