amclfc Well my first half marathon nearly ended in disaster before it started.

The race was called the Cransley Hospice Half marathon, starting at 11:00

As I'd entered last minute I did not receive a map etc. from the race organisers, they just told me to turn up at the village hall to collect my race number...

So I set off at 9:30 for the 20 minute drive to Cransley, got there in plenty of time, but the place was deserted and none of the locals knew anything about it, much panic and aimless driving around ensued....

At 10:30 I discovered that the race was actually in Cranford! (A big thank you to the very helpful Police Officer at Kettering Police station!)

Luckily it was only 10 minutes away and I was still able to get my race number from the village hall.....

I almost cried with relief and I was so happy to have made it in time that I ran the race with a big grin on my face and really enjoyed myself.

I tried to take it a little bit easy (as much as that is possible with all the excitement) as I was not sure how I would be feeling towards the end, (I checked my splits every mile to make sure I did not go too fast) I'd hoped to come in under two hours, so was well chuffed with a slight negative split (first 7 in 1 hour) and total time of 1:52:28

Lessons I learned, make sure you are clear on the race venue! Enjoy yourself!, I witnessed lots of people who were pushing too hard and did not seem to be having a good time at all.... Join a club, Wellingborough and District A.C. were there in big numbers and very friendly, so I am joining them..

Wonder how quick I'll be after I have done some speed work......? Unaffiliated 1:38:31 1:45:04 2:00:00 1:52:28 53.16
